The Real Time Operating System (GIS), which is actively developed within TÜBİTAK BİLGEM and continues to be integrated with many platforms, has been integrated into the SARP remote-controlled weapon systems, which have proven itself in the field. With this integration, a happy ending was reached in the ongoing work to localize the real-time operating system used in remote-controlled weapon systems, and the first systems with GIS were delivered to the customer. As a result of the joint efforts with ASELSAN in order to reduce foreign dependency and popularize the use of domestic products, SARP now works entirely with national software.
Remote Controlled Stabilized Weapon System SARP
ASELSAN SARP Remote Controlled Stabilized Weapon System is used in tactical land vehicles and fixed facilities against air and land threats and asymmetric threats. Different weapons can be attached to the system in accordance with the operational needs. The SARP System, which provides day and night surveillance, target detection and tracking, takes the security of the user personnel to the highest level with its advanced remote control capabilities.
What is Real Time Operating System (GIS)?
Operating systems are needed to perform more than one complex function on computer hardware. Operating systems allow the use of computer hardware to be shared between functions. When it comes to the criticality of the functions that will run on the hardware in terms of runtime, it is necessary to work in real-time operating systems. In this sense, real-time operating systems allow functions to operate deterministically in a defined time and order, compared to classical operating systems.
Cyber Security and GIS
TÜBİTAK BİLGEM has developed the Real Time Operating System (GIS), which is used in all systems in the defense sector and there are 11 in the world, completely domestically. With the domestic operating system GIS, critical technologies used in defense systems such as unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters and aircraft can be developed completely uniquely, and since all software is developed nationally, the possibility of outside intervention is completely eliminated.
Real-Time Operation can be used in domestic warplanes, domestic UAVs, Attack Helicopters, satellite systems, weapon systems, domestic automobiles, domestically produced trains, national ships, national submarines and similar systems. Thanks to the scalability of the GIS, its integration into SARP remote-controlled weapon systems, a product of ASELSAN, was easily achieved. The fact that GIS is a domestic and national system also points to critical importance in terms of cyber security measures in all systems in which it is used. Thanks to the national and domestic operating system, it is possible to protect many data, including secret military projects, to ensure the operability of the data and to prevent possible external interventions in embedded software systems.
