Within the scope of the collaboration between TÜBİTAK BİLGEM Communication and Signal Processing Laboratory (HİSAR), Boğaziçi University and Koç University; Samed Keşir, Sefa Kayraklık, Dr. İbrahim Hökelek, Prof. Dr. Ali Emre Pusane, Assoc. Dr. Ali Görçin, titled "Measurement-based Characterization of Physical Layer Security for RIS-assisted Wireless Systems" was awarded the "Best Paper Award" at IEEE VTC2023-Spring Conference
Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS), which is the subject of this paper, is an emerging technology in next generation wireless communication systems due to its low power requirement and low signal processing complexity. The award-winning study demonstrates that physical layer security can be achieved using RIS in a scenario where the transmitter (Alice), real receiver (Bob) and listener (Eve) are deployed in an indoor environment. In the experiments, a prototype RIS consisting of 76 passive reflective elements and software-defined radios connected to horn antennas at the terminals were used. It is shown through measurements and simulations that the phase shifts of the reflective elements of the RIS can be configured in software to maximize the stealth capacity.
Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC), first organized in 1950 by the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS), a global organization that supports many different events around the world that promote the development and standardization of technologies, is held twice each year, in spring and autumn.
At the IEEE VTC2023-Spring Conference of VTC, one of the most prestigious conferences in the field of wireless communication, mobile systems and vehicle technology, held in Florence, Italy on June 20-23, 2023, the work prepared by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM researchers was deemed worthy of the "Best Paper Award". The award was presented to Samed Keşir, a researcher at TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, by Gabriele Maria Lozito, Technical Program Session Chair.
