The Development of Basin Monitoring and Evaluation System (HİDS) Project carried out by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM Software Technologies Research Institute (YTE) with the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs was successfully completed. With HİDS, which is a monitoring and evaluation system that evaluates data themes such as erosion, desertification, land use and forestry in basins together and covers all basins, it is aimed to ensure that integrated basin projects and practices to combat desertification in our country are carried out in a healthier and more result-oriented manner, saving resources and preventing duplicate investments in basins.
With the continuous updating of the Desertification Risk Map of Turkey developed within the scope of the project, the effectiveness of the measures taken will be measured, thus the change in the desertification risk status of our country can be monitored and desertification trends can be determined. Thanks to the dynamic capability of the Turkey Desertification Model that can be adapted for different ecosystems, negotiations are ongoing for its implementation in different countries.
In line with TUBITAK's policy of being a bridge between universities and public institutions, the HİDS Project was successfully completed as a result of a year-long study in cooperation with academics from different fields of expertise such as climate, soil, geography, vegetation, socioeconomics and different universities and experts from implementing institutions.
